Autel EVO3 Drone: Indoor Flight Navigation and Positioning

Autel Robotics proudly launches the new EVO III drone, fearless of indoor flight!

The EVO3 series boasts powerful performance, continuing Autel's compact, rugged, and foldable quadcopter design. Built for mission-critical applications, it adapts to various scenarios, even enabling safe and autonomous flight in indoor environments with limited GPS signals.

Can the EVO III operate indoors?

Yes. The Autel EVO3 features all-weather positioning and navigation capabilities, along with strong anti-jamming capabilities. Employing visual positioning and high-precision SLAM navigation technology, it supports indoor drone inspections, emergency response, and public safety operations.

The Autel EVO III 4N Pro, equipped with telephoto and wide-angle night vision cameras, allows for stable flight even in extremely low light conditions inside dark buildings, eliminating the need for additional auxiliary lighting. This is crucial for nighttime emergency operations.

How does the EVO III achieve indoor navigation and positioning?

The Autel EVO III series features an all-around perception system with laser rangefinding, a 7-way fisheye vision sensor, a built-in front millimeter-wave radar, and a downward ToF sensor, capable of detecting obstacles up to 40 meters away and supporting obstacle avoidance at speeds up to 25 meters per second.

The Autel EVO III series also incorporates an RTK module for significantly improved hovering accuracy. With vision-based perception and reinforcement learning flight control, the EVO III can automatically avoid power lines, trees, branches, and buildings.

Daytime (for conventional obstacles, transparent glass, and white walls)

  • Sensing range: Forward/backward/lateral 0.5–10 meters, Upward/downward 0.5–5 meters
  • Effective obstacle avoidance speed: 2 m/s

Nighttime (for conventional obstacles, transparent glass, and white walls)

  • Sensing range: Forward/backward/lateral 0.5–5 meters, Upward/downward 0.5–3 meters
  • Effective obstacle avoidance speed: 1.5 m/s

Notes: Some national and regional regulations impose operating condition restrictions on millimeter-wave radar, which will affect forward perception and obstacle avoidance performance.

Current nighttime perception and obstacle avoidance performance indicators were measured under conditions of lower than nighttime urban light levels with a near-infrared supplementary light. Nighttime obstacle avoidance function should not be used without supplementary lighting.

How to choose an EVO III series drone?

The Autel EVO III 4T Pro focuses on zooming in for detailed observation; the Autel EVO III 4N Pro focuses on nighttime reconnaissance.

Operators can switch between different camera perspectives (visual view, thermal imaging view, or downward view) and adjust the drone's gimbal heading angle to obtain critical situational awareness information in confined, dark, or complex spaces.

The EVO3 drone is designed for professional missions and is a fully functional development platform. Even in complex environments such as limited satellite signals, low-light nighttime conditions, indoor spaces, and electromagnetic interference, the EVO3 maintains stable communication, precise navigation, and anti-interference capabilities, ensuring stable mission execution and controllable flight safety.

Next-generation drones for industrial indoor inspection

Currently, industrial indoor inspection is still primarily manual. Workers use handheld equipment or ladders and lifting platforms for inspection, resulting in low efficiency, high safety risks (high altitude, confined spaces, toxic environments), incomplete coverage, and strong data subjectivity.

Drone indoor inspection provides enterprises with a new approach. Drones offer advantages such as rapid deployment, flexible perspectives, repeatable operations, and objective, traceable data, making them particularly suitable for tasks such as structural inspection, equipment thermal imaging checks, and inventory counting.

If you're planning to build an indoor drone solution, the Autel EVO III series won't disappoint!
