Autel EVO II 640T RTK Drone Used for Arctic Spring Warming Research

The uses of Autel drones are constantly expanding. Using drones to conduct climate change research in the Arctic is a brand-new attempt. Drones can collect large amounts of data for analysis and research.

The Autel EVO II 640T RTK drone has a high-resolution thermal imaging camera and an accurate RTK positioning system, which is suitable for monitoring large-scale surface temperature changes, ice and snow melt, and vegetation growth.

In the study of spring warming in the Arctic region, the drone can be used to obtain high-quality thermal imaging data to help researchers analyze the impact of climate change on surface temperature and ice and snow cover.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute Arctic Research Center (FMI ARC) uses Autel Robotics EVO II Dual 640T RTK drones for field activities to observe forest trees and snow. An Autel 640T RTK drone can capture optical and thermal infrared images.

The drone was used to repeatedly fly over the site to measure spatial patterns in tree and snow temperatures, as well as changes in thermal radiation patterns during the day and night.

While the Autel drone was in the air taking aerial thermal measurements, another team member was on the forest floor taking measurements with a handheld thermal camera. The thermal images record real-time environments, both airborne and on the ground, taken during the day in direct sunlight and at night (long after sunset) to capture the temperature patterns of trees and snow.

Combining drone and ground observations can reach new heights, combining drone and ground thermal imagery to create 3D models showing horizontal and vertical changes in forest canopy surface temperatures.

The Autel EVO II 640T RTK drone collected sufficiently clear data during Arctic snowmelt and spring warming, and the drone was able to adapt to environmental changes and operate normally.

Through the Autel EVO II 640T RTK drone, researchers can monitor climate change in the Arctic in real time and collect large amounts of data for analysis and research. At the same time, because the drone is equipped with an RTK positioning system, it can provide precise spatial positioning information to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collection.
